About Ignitec
At Ignitec, we design and develop innovative embedded systems, connected devices and IoT products for clients operating in some of the world’s most demanding industries, including medical, defence, industrial, aerospace and energy.
Unlike working for a product company, every project at Ignitec presents a new technical challenge. One month you could be developing firmware for an ATEX certified industrial monitoring system, the next you could be supporting the development of a connected medical device or an advanced sensing platform.
We’re looking for a Junior Embedded Engineer who is enthusiastic, curious and keen to learn from experienced engineers while building a long term career in embedded software development.
The Role
As a Junior Embedded Engineer, you’ll work alongside our experienced electronics and embedded software engineers to develop real commercial products from concept through to manufacture.
You’ll receive mentoring and technical support while contributing to live client projects, giving you exposure to modern embedded development practices, wireless communications, RTOS development and hardware debugging.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a solid technical foundation who wants to accelerate their development by working across a wide variety of technologies and industries.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing embedded firmware in C and C++ under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Supporting development on STM32, ESP32 and similar microcontroller platforms.
- Assisting with board bring up, firmware integration and hardware debugging.
- Writing, testing and maintaining embedded software for commercial products.
- Learning and applying modern embedded software development practices.
- Working with communication interfaces including SPI, I²C, UART, CAN and USB.
- Supporting wireless technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy, WiFi and LoRa.
- Participating in code reviews and technical discussions.
- Producing clear technical documentation.
- Collaborating closely with electronics, mechanical and software engineers throughout product development.
Essential Skills & Experience
We’re more interested in your aptitude and willingness to learn than the number of years on your CV.
You’ll ideally have:
- A degree in Electronics, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Good programming skills in C or C++.
- A basic understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with debugging embedded software.
- Understanding of communication protocols such as UART, SPI or I²C.
- Experience using Git for version control.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- A genuine passion for embedded software and technology.
Desirable Skills
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous but is not essential:

- FreeRTOS or other RTOS environments
- Bluetooth Low Energy, WiFi or LoRa
- Basic electronics debugging using oscilloscopes or logic analysers
- Python scripting
- Knowledge or awareness of Linux, including embedded Linux environments
- Awareness of container technologies such as Docker, or an enthusiasm to learn modern Linux based development workflows
- Personal embedded software projects or an active GitHub portfolio
What You’ll Gain
At Ignitec you’ll have the opportunity to develop skills in:
- Embedded firmware architecture
- IoT and connected device development
- Wireless communication technologies
- Embedded Linux fundamentals
- Hardware bring up and product validation
- Product development within regulated industries
- Working directly with innovative technology companies
- Modern collaborative software development practices
You’ll be supported by experienced engineers who are invested in helping you develop your technical capability and confidence.
What We Offer
- Salary of £32,000 to £37,000 depending on experience
- Hybrid working
- Company profit share scheme
- Ongoing mentoring from experienced embedded engineers
- Professional training and career development
- Exposure to a diverse range of cutting edge engineering projects
- Clear progression pathway towards Embedded Engineer and Senior Embedded Engineer
- A friendly, collaborative engineering culture where learning and innovation are encouraged
