Job title: Mechanical Engineer
Based at: Ignitec, 1 The Powerhouse, Bradley Stoke, Bristol, BS32 4RU
Working hours: 8:00-16:00 Monday – Friday with flexitime
Start Date: ASAP
Experience: 1-4 years experience
Salary: £26,000 – £32,000 Depending on experience

Ignitec is a product design, research and technology consultancy based in Bradley Stoke, North Bristol. We are recruiting for a mechanical engineer to join our cross disciplinary design and research team. Our work is predominantly in prototyping and developing exciting new concepts in the medical, defence and scientific space. The successful candidate will be working alongside other designers and engineers on the team, developing early stage proof of concepts, technical demonstrators and products going out into the market. You will need to be comfortable working alongside embedded engineers and software engineers to integrate mechanical designs with other systems.

Requirements
  • Strong technical design skills
  • Strong technical drawing skills
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Diligent and detail oriented
  • Comfortable designing complex components and assemblies to tight tolerances
  • Good knowledge of Solidworks
  • Broad knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Able to select appropriate manufacturing processes and materials for applications ranging from one off’s to high volume.
  • Sound understanding of different metals, plastics and composites and when to use them
  • Natural ability to devise complex mechanisms and mechanical systems to solve problems
  • Strong documentation and writing skills
  • Ability to take things apart to understand how they work
  • Ability to use maths, physics and simulation tools to solve problems
  • Comfortable working to standards such as BS:8888 and ISO:9001
  • Ability to present concepts succinctly to clients and team members
Preferred skills:
  • Background in medical devices and instrumentation desirable but not essential
