We become carbon negative by offsetting carbon through tree planting projects

We have completely offset our carbon footprint for last year and become carbon negative!
- We produced 2.8 tonnes of CO2 last year
- We planted 500 mangrove trees which, when mature will sequester 5 tonnes of CO2 per year
- But we aren’t stopping there, we will continue to regularly commit a portion of our profits to carbon offsetting
- We now offset all of our shipments
- We now offset all of our international travel
- We have reduced all unnecessary business travel
To become carbon negative Ignitec is pleased to announce the company’s carbon offsetting measures that have been taken to create a zero-carbon design and technology company. With consultancy contracts across several sectors, we produced 2.8 tonnes of CO2 last year through energy consumption. Our business needs require the use of electric at a rate that creates continual carbon. As a company, we started with reducing all business travel, power consumption, and were already ensuring offsetting measures for any international travel the company undertook. The majority of the carbon remaining is offset through investing in tree planting projects around the globe.
By offsetting carbon through mangrove tree planting projects managed by Moretrees in Madagascar, Kenya, and Haiti, Ignitec helps to alleviate climate damage from carbon creation through investing in carbon offsetting projects that are focused on areas where regeneration through tree planting is most useful. One such project is the Mida Creek project in Kenya, which has seen 300 hectares of mangrove forests planted to offset carbon in other locations. The logic of offsetting carbon globally rather than specifically at the site where the carbon was created is done for the best possible outcome.
In this way, the world works together to increase the resilience of communities that have suffered environmental issues which can be alleviated through tree planting. This creates a win-win scenario; for the community benefitting from the project, for the company that offsets carbon creation, and for the world at large. The use of a professional carbon offsetting company allows our company to know that we have done the best we can for the environment and made up for the increased carbon that our company has created through basic operations.
To date, Ignitec has planted 500 trees; once matured, these trees will offset more carbon than we currently produce annually. To help become carbon negative, as our company grows and expands its operations, so will our investment in carbon offsetting. In the future we hope to far exceed our carbon footprint by planting enough trees to offset our own production many times.
Our Goal to become carbon negative
As a company, we are proud to contribute to the global push to reach a carbon neutral society. There is still much work to do as a society, and companies like ours need to be joined by other companies in reducing carbon footprint and creating not just a carbon neutral but a carbon negative business to reach better reduction levels. For instance, Open-Source Climate Solutions have found that the market for carbon offsetting is still very small. 250 million tons of carbon were created in the UK alone in 2020, and a total of about 1.24 billion tons of voluntary carbon offsets worldwide have been completed to date. This might sound like a lot, but the level of annual worldwide carbon emissions stand at roughly 43 billion tons. This shows that the world still has a long way to go to offset the amount of carbon that has been created already, let alone offset what is created ongoing.
With ongoing and purposeful work in the area of business carbon offsetting, Ignitec is taking a forward-facing responsibility for carbon creation across the company. Our aim is to bring a positive impact to the world only and negate any negative impact which is created simply by using electricity, by creating more positive outcomes. Ignitec is proud to be at the forefront of creating a carbon neutral company. We will remain committed to monitoring carbon consumption across all of our operations and activities and continue to offset accordingly.
